Christmas is almost upon us and our butchers, Ashley and Chris, are especially busy preparing all your Christmas orders. This year we’ve found that some people are eschewing the traditional turkey for duck, cockerel or beef – we’re happy to provide whichever is your meat of choice! We will of course also have a full butchery counter for all those Christmas essentials – hundreds of pigs in blankets are being prepared!
Louise and her shop staff are equally as busy, and hope that you will call in to see them over Christmas. The shop has some lovely luxury extras to make your party go with a swing, as well as a selection of toys and gifts suitable for everyone on your list. For those that like a tipple we’ve got a new range of fruit liqueurs from Hogg Norton, flavoured gins from Derbyshire Distillery and local cider from Darley Abbey Cider and Ashover Cider. The non-alcoholics are well catered for too – Belvoir drinks have a range of non-alcoholic wines and cordials, as well as some festive specials. Try their Spiced Ginger Punch to warm up a chilly evening. Talking of cold nights, it’s time to light your fire and curl up. Logs and kindling are both available from the farm shop.
However you’re spending Christmas we wish you a wonderful time and a happy new year. Hope to see you in 2020!
As the mornings and evenings begin to turn colder Autumn is definitely in the air! The hens are going to bed earlier as the nights start to draw in but we’re still enjoying the last of the summer sun, with the small animals basking in the mid day warmth. The goats have passed their TB test and the hens are laying some beautiful eggs – why not pop down and pick up a box!
Saturday is the start of British Food Fortnight and we’ll be celebrating everything that makes British food great! We’re especially lucky here at Betty’s to have a wide range of local produce, with minimum food miles. All our meat is, of course, British, with all our pork and lamb home reared at our sister farm in the Peak District. We use slow maturing, native breeds to give the best in quality and flavour. Ashley and his butchery team would love to tell you more!
As we look ahead we have some happy half term events planned. Abi’s Entertainments will be joining us to host a ‘Reptiles and Rocks’ session on Sat. 26th and Sun. 27th October, giving the chance to meet and handle a variety of reptiles and take part in some reptile inspired crafts. £10 per child, booking available via http://www.abis-entertainments.co.uk. They are also hosting a Halloween arts and crafts session on Wed. 30th Oct. at 11am. Tickets for this are £6 and children can choose their favourite activities, such as paper crafts, sand arts, sun catchers, scratch art and salt dough.
It might seem a long way ahead now but with less than 100 days until Christmas planning is well under way! Christmas order forms are now available from the farm shop and are also available to download from the ‘Farmshop’ section of our website at http://www.bettysfarmshop.co.uk/
This year we will be holding a Christmas Shopping Evening on Tuesday 12th November, with 10% off for loyalty card holders- so if you haven’t already got a loyalty card sign up now!

Despite the wind and rain spring is arriving at the farm! We have welcomed our first lambs at our sister farm near Buxton and are also hoping that Frankie, our guinea pig, will soon be giving birth – keep an eye on our Facebook page for baby updates!
We are also excited to announce that we have some new arrivals in the farm shop! Our first new supplier is Clive’s Wines. These wines are locally made in Staffordshire and are purely fruit based. We have a range of flavours available including Elderflower, Cherry, Damson and Rhubarb – they really do taste of the fruits and make great gifts! Pop along to the shop, we might even give you a free tasting!
Did you know that you can now recycle at Betty’s? Bring along your used stamps, crisp packets, baby food pouches, plastic bottle tops/lids and batteries and we will send these off to be reprocessed in new products. This not only helps the environment but also benefits several national and local charities – the stamps are sent to the RNIB, the crisp packets are recycled by Tetracycle who donate to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance and the baby food pouches benefit local charity Me&Dee. Thank you for all the items already received, and don’t forget we also have a donation bin for the British Heart Foundation.

The hard work continued on the farm over the Christmas period, we even welcomed a lamb to the farm on Christmas morning! We are busy planning events for 2019 – our first chicken rehoming week will be 4th-9th February and we will be holding a rehoming information evening on Tuesday 29th January to allow you to find out more about hens and to learn about how to care for them once you get them home. Limited spaces available – please email email@example.com or telephone 01283 703582 to book a place.
We will also be holding our Mini Farmer sessions once a month, giving a hands on, behind the scenes experience allowing children to handle and feed our farm animals. The first session will be tailored to pre-school aged children and will be held on Tuesday 15th January, 12-2pm. Places are £10 per child, booking essential, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a space. Keep an eye on our facebook page for details of other events.
The Tearooms at Betty’s Farm will be re-opening after the Christmas period on Friday 4th January. Why not visit them for a hearty warming winter meal, a delicious Betty’s breakfast or call in for a quick coffee after a visit to the farm shop.
We hope to see you at Betty’s soon!
As the days are becoming shorter and the weather gets colder out thoughts are turning to Christmas! We’ve got an exciting December here at Betty’s Farm with our ‘Meet the Christmas Elves and Santa’ each Saturday in the run up to Christmas. This experience involves being met by Santa’s elves and taken into the farmhouse to begin the Christmas preparations, before a visit from the big man himself! We still have space on some sessions, just £10 per child including a gift from Santa – please book in at the farm shop or telephone 01283 703582.
Our thoughts are also turning to Christmas lunch! For a stress free Christmas dinner download our Christmas order form to pre-order your turkey and meat and use our Christmas Shopping List for all the trimmings!
Our ram, Barney, went in with our ewes for breeding so we’re now looking forward to welcoming our lambs onto the farm from March 16th 2018! We also passed our Lion Code certification so we are continuing to be registered with the scheme. The clocks went back ensuring a difficult night shutting the chickens up as they were determined to stay up late and play outside despite it being pitch black!
